Why Blog?

Cardinal in the rain, February 4, 2014… notice how the buds on the tree are turning red? Until I picked up the camera Tuesday afternoon, I was still in a winter frame of mind.  We were under a winter weather advisory; the rain, pouring down in great sheets, shifted back and forth from ice to rain all day long like a sleeper in the grips of the flu.  And we’re still battling the flu, actually; JM passed it on to…

Food and Fitness Goals 2014

My breakfast Thursday morning: eggs, sweet potato, spinach.  Not pictured: orange juice with Vitamin D and cal-mag supplements.  And coffee with So Delicious coconut milk and honey. Tis the season for food challenges.  The Whole 30.  21 Day Sugar Detox. Eating Well has a 28 Day Challenge.  Bon Appetit has a Food Lover’s Cleanse.  I’m sure there are more that I’m not aware of.  I’m trying to resist the hype (I can be a little competitive sometimes) and instead focus…

Some blog business

I finally sat down and fiddled with my template.  Nothing fancy, but if you click through you’ll notice a big change in the header… and you’re also going to notice a change in your feed reader.  Gareth has been giving me a hard time about my blog title lately, so I succumbed to pressure and changed it from And the Kitchen Sink to… Three Plus Two. Yes, I’m going back to the old title. But only the title will change. …

Blog Business

So Google Reader is gone and now I can’t have my convenient Google Reader iGoogle homepage blog widget, which makes me cranky.  Bah.  I’m trying to get used to feedly, but it is Not The Same. Is it the font I need to get used to? I don’t know.  I may be simply visiting my favorite blogs more often instead of reading them on feedly.  You have been warned.   You might see some changes around here, too.  I’ve been trying…

Homeschool High School Blog Carnival for May

Do you ever have those days when you feel like you got exactly three-quarters of nothing done all day? That would be me today.  Blame it on a fussy baby (who is feeling better as the day goes on) and lifting a too-heavy pot of chicken stock too early. (It sure didn’t seem like it would weigh as much as the baby! But I guess chicken stock in a pot distributes differently than “baby” does.) Anyway, I was supposed…

Seven Quick Takes Recovery Edition

OneI’ve had two quick takes written for the past two weeks, and that’s been about the extent of my ability to think coherently. Otherwise I’ve been nursing, trying to get everybody (including me and my husband) fed, and reading books on my Kindle I’m never going to remember because I’m too tired.  Oh, and watching Food Network.  Will I ever be able to put together a brunch like Bobby Flay? Probably not. Especially since my older kids have started…

The Sheenazing Blog Awards

Have you heard about the Sheenazing Blog Awards?   Bonnie at A Knotted Life decided that it would be fun to host some awards for Catholic blogs, and so she did.  Voting starts this morning and ends on Thursday, January 31.  There are a lot of blogs on the list of nominations that are new to me, and so happily, I now have new reading material.  (I found A Blog for My Mom.  Her “What I Wore Sunday” posts are hysterical…

2013 Audio Book Challenge

And Still More Reading Challenges…

I’ve decided to participate in a few more (overlapping) reading challenges this year to help keep me motivated.  It’s a new baby year, and usually I read a bit more in new baby years than in toddler years because I get to sit in a chair and nurse.  The American Revolution Reading Challenge appealed to me because I’m doing this period of history with all the kids this year.  I think participating in the challenge will help me keep…

Mount TBR Reading Challenge 2013

So this year I’ve decided to commit to a few reading challenges from the very beginning, in the hopes that they’ll motivate me through those reading lulls to broaden my horizons.  Otherwise I sometimes end up rereading books just because I can’t decide on anything new to read.  One of the challenges that I am really excited about is the Mount TBR Reading Challenge hosted by Bev at My Reader’s Block.  Like most readers, I guess, I also…

Real Mom Resources (and keeping track of blog posts)

You might have noticed a new graphic in my sidebar if you’ve clicked through recently.  Real Mom Resources is a new website launched by Pam of Everyday Snapshots as a clearinghouse for blog links about homeschooling, homemaking, photography, and other “Mom stuff”.  How it works is: You click on a category, say Home Education.  Then say you want to look at Homeschool Room Ideas, because you are thinking about gutting the dining area of your kitchen to hold the massive…
