Birthday Fishing

On August 22, Chipmunk turned 6.   He wanted a cake with army guys (generously provided in two different colors by his brothers), and he wanted to go fishing.  With his brothers.  And his father. So he got a fishing rod…   And his brothers also got fishing rods, and we spent a Saturday afternoon at the pond. (Really it was supposed to be Saturday morning, but we ran into technical difficulties with a couple of the rods and then…

Announcing…

John Martin Boord, 7 lbs 12 oz, born at 12:39 PM on March 29. (Of course, this is the only post I’ll make with his real name.  From this point forth I’ll call him “Blue”.  Because that’s what Leo wanted to name him.  He was pretty emphatic about it, too.) (Oh, and we’re calling him “John Martin” not just John.) (Or, well, “Blue”.  Maybe he’ll grow up to play guitar?) But here he is with the hat off… showing off…

Week in Review: Habemus Papam and Beyond

So here’s another “weekly” review which really covers two weeks.  Two “we’re wrapping things up because life has given us a deadline” sort of weeks.  My C-section is officially scheduled for Good Friday at noon.  (I know.)  However, I had contractions that woke me up the other night and kept me up for an hour or so with their regularity… and also I think this breech baby was trying to put his feet through the bottom of my stomach.  Anyway,…

When Lent Comes Early

Yesterday was Ash Wednesday, but I feel like we’ve been in Lent for at least a week already. We took a few days to visit my mom and dad about two weeks ago.  Gareth came down with the flu a couple days before we were supposed to leave and we didn’t know if we would be able to go or not.  Gareth never gets sick, so it surprised all of us (including him) when he spent a day wrapped up…

Some stuff about October (and November)

October did not happen exactly how I planned it, and I haven’t been keeping up with the blog or my record keeping.  I guess that’s to be expected sometimes. I started a post about Halloween week during Halloween week, but it seemed a bit silly to post about Halloween on Election Day… or the day after Election Day, for that matter.  The day after the election I made myself feel better by looking up real estate in Montana.  (Let the…

B is for Birthday Cake

The twins turned seven last Wednesday.  Seven years ago, I could not foresee a time when I would even be able to leave my house again, let alone a time when they would be able to help make and decorate their own birthday cake.  To be honest, I wasn’t really sure we would get to 7! People always seem to be curious as to how we handle twin birthdays.  Usually we have cupcakes or two separate small cakes,…

Learning Highlights from Last Week

Some highlights from the last week or so… Chipmunk turned five!  He got some real tools for his birthday and has been spending a lot of time pounding nails into wood scraps, and screwing and unscrewing wood screws. He’s also been fascinated by Can You See What I See?: Toyland Express: Picture Puzzles to Search and Solve.  This book has large two-page spreads of a wooden toy train moving through various created landscapes or rooms.  One of the landscapes is…

Whooping Cranes at The Eyrie!

This is a proud Mama post.  A while back, I alluded to an exciting project of Katydid’s that we had to keep under our hats for a while.  But now I can tell you about it! Katydid is guest posting for The Eyrie, the American Birding Association’s blog for young birders.  Her first post is up tonight: Whooping Cranes — back from the brink of extinction?  So now I get one more reason to brag about her shamelessly!
